Learning how to change the battery in a VW key fob is a simple task. First, collect the necessary materials: a small screwdriver and a new CR2032 battery from your local Cave Creek hardware store. Here’s a tip— to minimize potential cosmetic damage to your key fob, wrap the head of the screwdriver in a piece of tape.  Now, take the following steps to learn how to change the battery in VW key fob:

1. Push down the button on your Volkswagen key fob to eject the emergency key.
2. Get a good grip on the VW key fob and/or your key ring to keep the VW key fob steady while you perform the next step.
3. Locate the seam between the lid and the base of your VW key fob. With your fingers, you can start to create a space between the two pieces and then fully pry them apart with your small, flat-headed screwdriver. If you’ve added that small piece of tape to the screwdriver, you’ll avoid scratching the VW key fob.
4. Remove the old battery and insert the new VW key fob battery replacement in place, with the positive side facing downward.
5. Put the VW key fob remote case back together nice and tightly as it was before.
