The new Taos has a similar boxy exterior like that of the Tiguan and Atlas, which looks more mature on this smaller-sized crossover. The dimensions put it as 9.3 inches shorter than the Tiguan, putting this model at either the large end of the subcompact SUV segment or the small end of the compact segment.
The new 2022 Volkswagen Taos is powered by a turbocharged 1.5L inline-four with 158hp and 184 lb-ft of torque. Luckily for more fuel-efficient drivers, this engine is capable of running on a modified Miller cycle which is called the Budak cycle. This is meant for targeting high fuel economy numbers.
The front-wheel drive models have an eight-speed automatic transmission, while adding the 4Motion all-wheel-drive option necessitates a switch to a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. The FWD and AWD models have a different rear suspension with a torsion beam in front.
